Pat’s Wall Climb

If you’ve ever been to UREC at JMU, you’ll notice a giant rock climbing wall that stretches to the top of the third floor. This is open for students to climb as long as they are using the proper equipment so as to prevent death by rock-climbing-wall. After Ball Wackers Game #2, I was walking around UREC, and spotted Pat from my floor preparing to climb the wall. Unbeknownst to him and Matt (also from my floor, and here to cheer Pat on), I had slipped into the elevator and gone up to the second floor in order to get a better camera angle. It was there from the second floor that I made my presence known to them, with Mavica in hand. Pat made 1½ climbs of the wall… take a look!

And here we go! Every journey starts with a single step, and this is it.

Less than a minute in, Pat's making good progress, having almost reached the level of the second floor.

Wait a second! Some adjustments to the climbing apparatus that Pat's got on must be made, so they have to bring him back to earth and make some adjustments.

With the necessary adjustments made, the climb is resumed.

As you can see from this far-away shot, Pat's at about the right level now where he could give high-fives to second-floor patrons.

Almost there... the windows you see in the upper left are coming from the third floor.

Victory! Pat reaches the top of his rope, thus completing the climb to the top. In this picture, he is at the level of the third floor.

Now this is the easy part. Just sail on down as the UREC staff member lets the rope go ever so carefully.

Back on the ground, Pat is let out of the climbing harness and such.

Finished with the climb, he shows Matt (left) where he had been.
