Inside My Room – Sophomore Year

Potomac Hall

In my sophomore year, I am living in Potomac Hall, out on the CISAT campus. Potomac is arranged in two wings of five floors each. I am living on the fourth floor, in the west wing (the closer of the two wings). It’s a fun hall… it’s only in its third year, and we have lots of adventures together, as I’m sure you will see on the other pages in this section. I have had two roommates this year – Stephen Biscotte and Garrett Wood. Stephen moved out in late September for a better place in the Bluestones, and then Garrett was here from early October (check the October Web Cam archives to see him moving in) until mid-November. This year has definitely been a case of “musical roommates”, eh? However, after Christmas, David Basham moved in, and he’s here for the remainder of the year, adding a nice touch of consistency to my life.

Some things never change, as you can plainly see. Site logo, in pretty colors on the door, address, and white-board. A couple of differences, though... the picture is different, and my site's slogan (yes, I do have one) is there now. Before I got my domain, it was "Seeing is Believing". This was taken early on in our time at Potomac, judging by the SimpleNet URL on the door.

This is the infamous Web Cam! Perched atop one of the boards on the side of my loft bed, this thing captures images of this room every two minutes, and transmits them to The Schumin Web.

“I’m ready for my close-up, Mr. Demille…”

Here's the Web Cam up close and personal. This is actually how I see it from my desk.

This is the office, 2000-2001! Still bed on top, and computer below, though the layout is greatly improved.

Potomac has a higher ceiling than in McGraw-Long, and it's spoiling me... I now have much more headspace than before, so no more hitting my head... I also replaced my little blue desk lamp with a fluorescent light, and thus less heat index up here...

And this is my dresser, as well as storage space. Note so many things that couldn't find a home got a home in Potomac... last year, that Normandie poster was sitting, in its frame, on the floor for most of the second semester. Now, it hangs from the wall, like it should.

And my scooter takes residence... when this picture was taken, I was between roommates, and so the scooter is sitting on the other dresser. Usually, it's on the floor.

As if there's not enough clocks and things, here's two more for ya... I picked these up at Virginia Beach in August, and so by the door is a clock and a mirror. Made to look like Titanic life rings. I don't really use the clock (I have a clock on my computer that I use), but I do shave in that little mirror. Note one inaccuracy: Titanic's home port is not London - it's Liverpool.

This is my "office" of my sophomore year. Realizing that if I pulled out the desk a little bit, I could have the monitor straight in front of me. So I did that. On the screen, of course, is The Schumin Web. I wouldn't want to be displaying anyone else's Web site on my screen when I'm taking pictures, would I?

As mentioned above, the door is similar to last year, but things changed since the first picture was taken. For one thing, I got settled into www.schuminweb.com, and my new slogan, "It's a new day, a new Schumin Web" is on the door. You can see a close-up of the top of the door below...

Another glamour shot of the Web Cam...

Another glamour shot of the Web Cam…

You should know that most people who see this room see it from the other direction… from the Web Cam’s eye.

This is the study lounge... very comfy place to study. And just down the hall from me!

And this is the TV Lounge. Unlike at MGL, we have one per floor... very nice, though rarely used.

The laundry room here is definitely equipped for more people... seven washers and eight dryers. The nice thing about this is that you can watch your clothes get dry... and count the laps that your pair of pants takes... 1,763, 1,764, 1,765...

Outside of here is the first floor lounge. On the upperclass side (the west wing), we have the pool table.

And go right through here to the other side of the building!

As you can see, the halls in Potomac are rather long... much longer than in McGraw-Long, and rooms are paired off (or single) in little nooks in the side of the hallway. Very nice organization...
