D-Hall - The Fresh Food Company
– Part 1 –

D-Hall, under the direction of Aramark, was renovated over the summer of 2001. It went from a D-Hall that was great to a D-Hall that was even better. Now, there’s more variety in the food, new seating options, a more logical layout, and all new stuff to see and eat off of. Now the theme is “Fresh Food Company”, where the food is made and served right in front of you. But forget my descriptions of it up here – see it for yourself right below, and on the following two pages. And the best part about it? It only costs a meal punch.


Welcome to D-Hall, now operating as the Fresh Food Company! Note the new dinner hours. Now instead of 5:00 to 8:00, dinner is from 4:30 to 7:30. According to the folks who work at D-Hall, they do more business at 4:30 than they did at 7:30.

Some things, however, do change. Since the new layout is somewhat akin to a food court, the trays and silverware are in two centralized locations. This location is near the main entrance to D-Hall, near "Southern Bistro", which you'll find out about later. There's a second location between "Cafe Roma" and "Accents", both of which you'll also learn about later.

Madison Sizzles is D-Hall's place to get stuff hot off the grill. There are hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers occasionally, chicken patties, french fries, etc.

And what would sandwiches be without toppings? Turn that hamburger into a cheeseburger instantly, and add your favorite garden vegetables with it. An improvement in the new D-Hall was putting the toppings and such right next to the burgers, vs. putting them on the salad bar.

Southern Bistro is your "traditional fare" kind of eating option on campus. Here, you can get the stuff that Mom used to make, so to speak, and some stuff you perhaps wished that Mom would make.

Another enhancement to the new D-Hall is the new Nutrition facts cards. Previously, the cards showed the food pyramid and the facts, rather than the formal "Nutrition Facts" panel.

I promised you Vegan Corner, now here's your Vegan Corner. The Vegan Corner offers specialized foods for the person who does not eat anything coming from an animal. Here we have vegetable dishes, hummus, and soy milk.

D-Hall would not be D-Hall without the waffles, no matter what anyone else says. The waffles are back and better than ever, now with the waffle irons having automatic timers vs. the old ones that you had to set yourself, meaning you get a perfect waffle every time.
