The Ball Wackers
Let’s all admit it – JMU is one of the top colleges in not only its undergraduate programs, but also in how much fun its students are able to have. Case in point – University Recreation, commonly known as UREC. It’s a full-service fitness center for students, faculty, staff, and their spouses. One thing that UREC sponsors is intramural sports. Some of the folks on the fourth floor of Potomac Hall have decided to organize a softball team, and they determined that the name would be the Ball Wackers. I am the official cheerleader, support-giver, and photo-taker for the team, which plays on the turf field out behind UREC. Fun stuff! We didn’t get the championship, but we still had fun. Unlike football, baseball (or softball – it’s played the same way) is something I understand. I know what is going on, and I can follow it. Football? Forget it. I could be told a thousand times how it all works, and still wouldn’t understand it. But softball is easy. Throw ball, swing bat, hit ball, and then run around the bases. On the following pages, you’ll be able to take a look at some of the highlights and interesting details from the games.
